Hundreds of NHS clinical radiologist posts are vacant

New statistics have been published by the BBC on NHS doctor and nurse vacancies. The Royal College of Radiologists’ President, Dr Giles Maskell has commented on the findings.

What the BBC has found confirms what we have known for the last few years: there are simply too few clinical radiologists in the NHS to deliver anything like a quality service to patients.

Patients are suffering the consequences: crucial medical opinions by radiologists on scans and x-rays are being delayed. Serious conditions including cancer are not being diagnosed quickly enough leading to poorer outcomes.
